Florida Gators basketball: Michael Devoe talks UF recruitment

2018 6’4 point guard Michael Devoe had a solid outing at EYBL session 1 in Hampton this past weekend. The Nike South Beach guard caught the eye of many coaches that were in attendance. His ability to run the offense in transition or in the half-court set was on display. Devoe averaged 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds in session 1 and looks to carry that momentum into Indianapolis for session 2 this weekend. Devoe caught up with GatorCountry.com to talk about the EYBL and to give an update on his recruiting process.

Despite going 1-3 in Hampton, Devoe believes that his team has what it takes to turn it around and make some noise this coming weekend.

“I felt I played great in the first session averaging 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds,” Devoe said. “I feel that I shot the ball very well. We unfortunately went 1-3, but I feel real confident this weekend on our success. I really look to win all of our games this weekend and separate myself as an individual.”

The recruiting process has been heating up for Devoe and his performance in Hampton only added to the flame. Several teams jumped into the mix for Devoe by offering him this past week.

Clemson, Wake Forest, and Uconn are some recent offers,” he said. “The schools showing the most interest are Florida, UCF, Uconn, Georgia tech, Wake Forest, and Ohio State. Those are the ones who contact me pretty much every day.”

Florida offered the in-state point guard on March 28th and have been keeping in touch with him ever since. Devoe is planning on taking an unofficial visit to Florida sometime after the 2nd EYBL session.

“My relationship with UF is great and I really love the coaching staff,” Devoe said. “It has been a special program for many years. They have a senior guard leaving next year, so I think that would be a good opportunity for me to step in and contribute in that area. I plan to take an unofficial after this 2nd session.”
Devoe and his Nike South Beach team are dialed in and focused on making some noise in Indianapolis for session 2 this weekend.
