EJ Jarvis Retiring From Basketball

After stepping away from the Florida basketball program at the end of September, Yale transfer EJ Jarvis announced he would be retiring from the game of basketball.

Jarvis posted a statement on his Instagram account on Thursday announcing he would be stepping away from the game of basketball:

“At this point in my career, I feel it would be best to pursue other opportunities in life. So with that being said, I have made the difficult decision to step away from the game of basketball.”

Despite not being a part of the Florida basketball program for long, Jarvis was sure to thank the fans:

“To Gator Nation, while my time in Gainesville was shorter than expected, I want to personally say thank you for welcoming me with open arms. The strong sense of community in Gainesville is unlike anything else in this world and I truly appreciate the love I felt from Gator Nation.”

He also had positive things to say about his coaches and teammates at Florida:

“I would like to emphasize how understanding and supportive Coach Golden, the coaching staff, and my teammates at the University of Florida have been. I am genuinely thankful for all the relationships I have made while at Florida and will be cheering them on as they work towards their goal of winning a National Championship.”

Jarvis was Florida’s first transfer portal commit, choosing the Gators back in March. He came from Yale where he averaged 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, with a lot of his best work coming on the defensive end. With the ability to guard multiple positions he was expected to be a glue guy that could play a number of different roles for the Gators and push for a starting position. Off the court, Jarvis is known for his charity work, as well as a clothing business he ran on the side.

With Jarvis officially gone, the Gators will look for elevated roles from their freshmen Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon who have both been receiving rave reviews from the coaching staff so far.
