Florida guards Zyon Pullin and Walter Clayton Jr. have been named All-SEC and forward Alex Condon earned SEC All-Freshman, the Southeastern Conference announced on Monday. Pullin earned first-team honors, while Clayton earned second-team recognition.
The group has helped lead Florida to a 21-10 regular season record, the team’s most wins heading into the postseason since 2016-17. Pullin and Clayton give Florida multiple All-SEC guards for the first time in 11 years – last accomplished by Kenny Boynton, Mike Rosario and Scottie Wilbekin in 2012-13 – and the 11th time in Florida history (see chart below).
Pullin, a graduate transfer from UC Riverside, was not only one of the best point guards in the SEC, but all of college basketball in 2023-2024. The California native averaged 15.7 points per game on 44.5% shooting, including a 44.4% mark from three-point range, which ranks 44th in the country. While Pullin was a highly effective scorer, his most notable attribute was his vision and ability to run Florida’s fast paced offense. Pullin averaged 5.0 assists per game and posted an assist to turnover ratio of 4.38, which ranks 2nd in the country behind CJ Fulton of Charleston and is on pace to set UF’s program record. Pullin’s offensive rating ranks 36th in all of college basketball, according to KenPom.
“I’m not sure how many point guards out there in America you would rather have right now,” Florida’s Head Coach Todd Golden said on Pullin.
Pullin also has six 20-point games and began the season with 23 straight double-figure scoring games, matching UF’s third-longest streak of the 2000s. Pullin led the Gators with 36.3 minutes per game during league play.
Clayton, Florida’s leading scorer, averaged 17.0 points per game this season including 18.3 against SEC teams. Clayton has 12 20-point games this season, the most by a Gator since Boynton’s 13 in 2011-12. The Lake Wales, Florida native drained at least three 3-pointers in 12 of UF’s 18 SEC games this season. Clayton has shot up NBA draft boards due to his scoring ability and underrated athleticism.
As a backcourt duo, Pullin and Clayton’s combined 32.7 points per game overall are the most by two Florida players since Anthony Roberson and Matt Walsh’s 33.7 in 2003-04.
Condon, a 6’11 Australian who came to Florida as an unranked recruit, leads all SEC freshman with 6.5 rebounds per game and 38 blocked shots this season. Condon is the only Florida freshman in the 2000s to post multiple 15-rebound games and is the Gators’ first frontcourt SEC All-Freshman honoree since Patric Young in 2010-11.
Condon seemingly improved each and every game for the Gators, showcasing good footwork, passing, strong defense, shot blocking, rebounding, and a hook shot that you don’t see from many freshmen big men in the SEC.
Condon ranked inside the top 167 college basketball players in offensive rebounding, defensive rebounding, and blocked shot percentage.
This marks the second time over the past decade that the Gators have had multiple All-SEC performers and an SEC All-Freshman honoree, as this season’s group joins the 2019-20 trio of first-team All-SEC Keyontae Johnson, second-team All-SEC Kerry Blackshear and SEC All-Freshman Scottie Lewis.
