5-Star Wing VJ Edgecombe Schedules Official Visit To Florida

VJ Edgecombe, an elite wing in the class of 2024, has booked an official visit to Gainesville in September.

A couple of weeks ago the talented Edgecombe released his top 10 schools consisting of Florida, Alabama, UConn, Baylor, Duke, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Saint John’s, and the G League Ignite program. Things went to another level on Tuesday as Edgecombe announced six official visits he’ll be making in the fall.

These visits will include Florida, Baylor, Michigan, Duke, Alabama, and Florida State.

It’s not particularly common for a player to announce all of his official visits at once, but it shows the level of organization of focus Edgecombe has when it comes to his recruitment. Edgecombe is known as an intelligent kid, and his schedule of visits that spans the fall shows a tactical approach to his decision making.

The Gators will be getting Edgecombe’s first visit on September 15. This is the same weekend the Gators will have Ryan Jones on campus, a player the program currently feels good about landing. They’ll hope some of the enthusiasm from the local talent in Jones will rub off on Edgecombe who will be traveling from his home in Glen Head, New York for the visit. Edgecombe currently plays at a heralded program in Long Island Lutheran where he has been steadily climbing up the recruiting rankings throughout his high school career. According to the 247 Composite he’s currently the 17th ranked player in the 2024 class and he certainly still has room to climb.

When it comes to Edgecombe’s game, it’s all about scoring. The 6’4” Edgecombe has one of the most polished offensive games in the 2024 class, leading to an offer list that’s about as good as anyone in the country. A lot of the most productive high school players rely on talent and athleticism and while Edgecombe has a solid frame and good burst–he’s not someone who is completely reliant on it. He is extremely talented with the ball with a lot of dribble moves to break down opponents whether in the half court or in transition and it makes him an impossible cover for just about anyone who draws the assignment of having to try and stay in front of him. The kind of offensive polish Edgecombe displays would be well ahead of a lot of college players already, so you can see why coaches look at him as someone who will be ready to score in the teens as a freshman in 2024.

As you could imagine from how he tactically laid out a schedule for official visits, Edgecombe is a high-IQ player who sees the floor well and is always a move or two ahead of defenses that try and stop him. Blending a potent arsenal of scoring moves with a cerebral approach to the game, he’ll be one of the best scorers in high school basketball this upcoming season.

It’s tough to read into whether or not Florida getting the first official visit is a positive or negative when he has six official visits scheduled, but it should be a good atmosphere for his time in Gainesville. The football team will be taking on Tennessee that weekend, and Ryan Jones’ presence will hopefully be a help. There isn’t a clear leader in Edgecombe’s recruitment, though the G League Ignite program has a pretty good hit rate of landing elite prospects as of late.

With Edgecombe’s visits scheduled into November, look for his decision to go well into the fall at least.
