2026 Big Man Maxime Meyer Taking Visit To Florida

The Florida Gators will have a bit of a surprise visit this weekend as Canadian center Maxime Meyer will head to Gainesville.

Meyer originally hails from Toronto, but has moved to the state of Florida to attend IMG Academy where the Gators have had the chance to keep a close eye on his development. Meyer has been a steady riser over the last year, as he now stands as the 102nd ranked player in the class of 2026 after being viewed as more of a mid-major prospect for much of his high school career.

What really kicked off the recruitment of Meyer was his performance for Canada at the FIBA U19 Championships. While he didn’t put up massive numbers, he impressed coaches with his motor, mobility, and defensive intensity, and his offers and interest ramped up greatly with every performance.

Listed at 7’0” or 7’1” depending on where you look, Meyer has excellent height, though he’ll likely be looking to add more muscle as he heads towards a college career. While he might not be bulky and totally equipped to bang with bigger bodies, his 215 pound frame allows him to get up and down the floor with ease and play with great pace, staying in a stance and moving through every defensive rotation effortlessly. Offensively, Meyer doesn’t have a lot to his game past finishing off cuts and rolls, but that is enough for him to be valuable when you factor in his work on the defensive end.

Throughout Golden’s time at Florida he has largely gone after less heralded frontcourt players that he thinks he can keep in Gainesville for multiple years, a strategy that helps with NIL management and opens up the possibility for huge values if they pop like with Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh. Florida already has one of these players in the class with Jones Lay, but you simply can never have enough frontcourt depth in the pipeline and the Gators realize that as they are likely to lose a number of post players following the 2025-26 season.

The schools considered to be most involved with Meyer are Michigan State, SMU, Saint Mary’s, Ohio State, Stanford, and Vanderbilt. There hasn’t been a lot of talk about Florida in the recruitment until recently, but the fact that they’re getting a visit at this point means that they are very much involved. Meyer had even released a top 6 at the beginning of the month (consisting of the schools previously mentioned) but clearly there has been a shake up in the recruitment. In addition to the news of Florida getting a visit, Meyer cancelled a planned visit to Ohio State, so clearly there are moving pieces here and the chance for the Gators to land another big man prospect.

Florida’s pitch to Meyer will be the opportunity to develop in a similar mold of Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh, and be in a situation where he can be around winning right away.

Currently, Meyer has no timetable set on when he’ll make his decision.
