USF INF Bobby Boser signs with Florida Gators

Florida baseball picked up their 7th transfer portal commitment of the offseason when USF infielder Bobby Boser signed with the Gators on Wednesday afternoon. Boser ranks as the 57th overall transfer portal prospect and the 5th best uncommitted player, according to 64 Analytics.

The 6’1, 209-pound infielder slashed .299/.351/.667 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI in 34 games last season. Despite missing 22 games with a hand injury, Boser still earned 2024 All-AAC First Team for his efforts with the Bulls.

Boser broke out during his sophomore campaign, logging career highs in batting average (.323), on base percentage (.445), home runs (15), stolen bases (8), and RBI (41) in 55 games played including 52 starts. Boser’s 15 home runs in 2023 tied for ninth-most all-time in program single-season history. The Wesley Chapel, Florida native earned 2023 All-AAC First Team and 2023 Cape Cod League All-Star in his second year.

As a true freshman, Boser hit .198 with four home runs and five doubles in 38 games including 24 starts.

Boser is listed on USF’s roster as a utility player, having logged starts at every position on the diamond except for catcher and pitcher across his three-year collegiate career. In 2024, Boser made 17 starts at second base, 11 at shortstop and two at third base. In 2023, Boser made 33 starts in center field, 12 at shortstop, four at second base and two at third base.

Florida will likely keep him in the infield as the Gators should have a deep outfield room entering next season. There’s an open spot at third base but Boser has logged just four-career starts at 3rd base, so I’m not sure Kevin O’Sullivan would be willing to use Boser as the full-time starter at the hot corner. He could also see time at DH if necessary.

Boser holds a career .981 fielding percentage highlighted by his 2023 season where he made just one error and sported a .994 fielding percentage.

The one clear weakness in Boser’s offensive game is his swing and miss. Boser has struck out 143 times in 402 career at bats, a strikeout percentage of 35.5%. However, Boser did make more contact in 2024, striking out on 29.9% of his at bats after striking out on 38.9% and 37.4% of his at bats in his first two seasons.

Boser is currently playing summer ball in the Cape Cod League, where he’s hitting .319 with six doubles and two home runs in 21 games with Wareham.

Florida is adding another offensive weapon to their roster in 2025, which returns Cade Kurland, Luke Heyman, Brody Donay, Colby Shelton, and Ty Evans from last season’s College World Series team.
