Fresh off their Gainesville Regional championship, the Florida Gators (42-20) will play host to Southern Mississippi (38-24) this weekend in the Super Regional, the next stop on the road to Omaha for the College World Series. Southern Miss advanced to the Super Regional by knocking off Georgia Tech, 12-8, Monday evening to win the Atlanta Regional.
Southern Mississippi and Florida will begin play at McKethan Stadium at 3 p.m. Saturday. Game Two of the best-of-three series is scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. If a Game Three is necessary, it will be played on Monday at either 1 or 7 p.m. The ESPN networks (ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU) will carry the three games.
The eighth-seeded Gators are one of four Southeastern Conference teams to advance to a Super Regional. LSU, the number three national seed, will play host to Rice of Conference USA in Baton Rouge. Arkansas, which beat seventh seed Oklahoma to win the Norman Regional, will travel to Tallahassee to face Florida State. Ole Miss, which beat Western Kentucky Monday to win the Oxford Regional, will play host to Virginia, which beat UC-Irvine to win the Irvine Regional championship late Monday night.
