Samford catcher Eddie Marshall has committed to the Florida Gators, multiple sources tell me. Marshall will be a sophomore in 2027 with four years of eligibility remaining.
As a true freshman in 2026, Marshall earned a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman Team after hitting .252 with 12 home runs and 27 RBI in 137 at-bats. He struck out 37 times and drew 14 walks.
Marshall played behind First Team All-SoCon catcher Cade Carr but still saw meaningful playing time at catcher, first base, and designated hitter during his lone season with the Bulldogs.
The Lighthouse Point, Florida native committed just one error on the season and posted a .996 fielding percentage. He threw out two baserunners in 19 attempts.
Marshall visited Florida before making his commitment to the Gators, but it wasn’t his first time in Gainesville.
“I came to a camp here my sophomore year and always wanted to play for Gators baseball. I worked hard for this opportunity and I’m super excited to get to work and start the journey back to Omaha,” Marshall told Gator Country.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound catcher played high school baseball at Cardinal Gibbons, where he hit over .300 in each of his three seasons while being named a three-time MVP and team captain. Marshall was also named County Hitter of the Year and helped lead his team to the 2024 state championship.
He ranked as the No. 27 catcher and No. 264 overall prospect in the state of Florida in the 2025 class, according to Perfect Game.
Marshall’s commitment marks Florida’s ninth addition via the transfer portal and its second catcher, joining FGCU’s Jon Embury. The Gators also return rising senior catcher AJ Malzone and will welcome freshman Luke Labbe next season.
