Florida baseball will be adding Oregon State right-handed pitcher Zach Edwards, according to a report from Jacob Rudner of Baseball America. Edwards entered the transfer portal on Friday.
The commitment makes Edwards the second Oregon State arm to follow pitching coach Rich Dorman to Gainesville this offseason, joining left-hander Trey Morris. Edwards will be a junior in 2027 and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
The Beavers reliever made 18 appearances in 2026, posting a 2-0 record with a 5.61 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a .224 batting average against across 25.2 innings. He struck out 37 batters while issuing 11 walks.
Edwards’ best outing of the season came on May 9 against Long Beach State, when he tossed four perfect innings, struck out six batters, and earned the save. The Riverton, Utah, native followed that performance with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief against Oregon in the Eugene Regional.
Rudner, who first reported the transfer, described Edwards as a power arm, writing that he “sits 95-96 and is up to 99 with a cutter.” Rudner also noted that Edwards generated a 60% whiff rate on a mid-80s slider with significant horizontal break.
As a true freshman in 2025, Edwards posted a 5.89 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and .239 batting average against across 18.1 innings. He recorded 22 strikeouts and nine walks.
Following his freshman season, Edwards put together a standout summer in the Cape Cod League, allowing just three earned runs across 16.1 innings (1.65 ERA) for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. He surrendered only 6.1 hits and 2.8 walks per nine innings, resulting in a 0.98 WHIP.
The Gators are adding a power arm who showed improvement in his second season, lowering his ERA, WHIP, walks per nine innings, and hits allowed per nine while increasing his strikeout rate.
Edwards becomes Florida’s sixth transfer portal commitment of the offseason.
