Jac Caglianone ties NCAA record with a home run in nine consecutive games

Florida’s two-way superstar Jac Caglianone launched a 401-foot home run in top of the 6th inning against No.13 Vanderbilt on Friday night, marking his 9th consecutive game with a long ball. The home run tied the all-time NCAA record set by former University of Nevada slugger Tyler Bosetti in 2021.

The record setting deep ball came against LHP Carter Holton, who got behind in the count 2-0 before hanging a breaking ball out over the plate to one of the more gifted hitters in college baseball history.

This record is not a fluke for the Tampa native either. In 2023, Caglianone launched an NCAA record 33 home runs in a single season, which is the most in the BBCOR era (2011) and the most in Florida program history.

Caglianone has established himself as much more than a power hitter this season. To date, the left hander is hitting .405 and striking out on only 10.7% of his at bats prior to tonight’s game, which makes Caglianone the 3rd hardest batter to strike out in all of college baseball in 2024.

15 of Caglianone’s 23 home runs this season have come against left handers, posting a .453 batting average against southpaws this year.

On top of nine consecutive games with a home run, Caglianone has a 17-game hit streak, 23-game on base streak, and has homered in 11 of his last 12 games (also 14 of his last 17).

Matt Laporta’s 72 career home runs at Florida once felt like a record that will never be broken. With Caglianone launching his 63rd career home run tonight, the 6’5 slugger needs 11 to tie the record and 12 to break it with 16 regular season games left + the SEC Tournament.

Caglianone will have an opportunity to record a home run in ten consecutive games tomorrow at 3:00 PM against Vanderbilt.
