Florida Gators baseball defeat Florida Gulf Coast University

The No. 1 Florida Gators baseball team opened up the 2016 campaign with a singular goal in mind: Get to Omaha for the College World Series and, for the first time, bring back a trophy.

To get the season kicked off Florida hosted the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles at McKethan Stadium for a three-game stint.

The Gators won 4-2 on opening night in front of a record crowd for the first game of the season (5,778) and followed that up with an 8-4 win to take the series.

Gator Country was back at the Mac to welcome in the new season with the Gators and now bring you a gallery with more than 70 pictures of the Florida Gators, including potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, A.J. Puk and new freshman (2nd round, 56th overall pick in the 2015 draft) Brady Singer.

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
