Florida senior outfielder Blake Cyr was selected by the New York Yankees with the 548th overall pick in the 18th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.
Cyr is the sixth Gator to have his named called at this year’s MLB Draft, joining Liam Peterson (Round 1, Pick 19 – Cleveland Guardians), Kyle Jones (Round 3, Pick 102 – Milwaukee Brewers), Russell Sandefer (Round 4, Pick 132- Los Angeles Dodgers), and Hayden Yost (Round 5, Pick 162 – Seattle Mariners).
Florida has produced 6+ draft picks in four of the last six drafts, including three of the last four (2021, 2023, 2025, 2026). The Orange & Blue has had at least six draftees in 14 of the last 18 years since 2009. Cyr represents the 237th individual draft choice in team history including the 122nd of the Kevin O’Sullivan era (2008-present).
In two seasons with the Orange and Blue, Cyr slashed .286/.379/.512 with 23 home runs, 24 doubles, and 92 RBI.
The Windermere, Florida, native put together an impressive senior campaign in 2026, batting .316/.398/.519 with 14 home runs, 15 doubles, and 58 RBI. He earned ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Southeast Region honors following the season.
Prior to Florida, Cyr played in 85 games for Miami across his freshman and sophomore seasons, batting .298/.418/.593 as a Hurricane with 34 homers, 15 doubles and 84 RBI over 295 at bats. He earned 2023 Freshman All-American honors after slashing .305/.427/.620 with 17 home runs.
