Wisconsin transfer QB Graham Mertz officially commits to the Florida Gators.
Mertz entered the transfer portal on Dec. 4th and took an unofficial visit to Gainesville on Dec 9-10th.
The Kansas native was a member of the 2019 recruiting class and played high school ball at Blue Valley North.
The four-star spent four seasons with Wisconsin, totaling 5,405 yards passes, 38 TD’s, and 26 interceptions while completing 59.5% of his passes.
Mertz’s completion percentage gradually decreased every year with the Badgers.
In 2021, Mertz completed 57.3% of his passes for 2,136 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Mertz is a pro-style QB that doesn’t offer much of a threat on the ground as he’s totaled -21 rushing yards throughout his career. The good news is his 8 rushing touchdowns indicate he’s frequently used in the redzone.
Mertz is going to compete with Jack Miller and recent freshman signee Jaden Rashada for the starting job.
His multiple years of starting experience would lead me to believe that Mertz is the front runner to win the position battle.
The 6-3, 216-pound quarterback isn’t exactly a homerun in the portal, but the room gets better with Mertz in it. He provides veteran experience that the QB room was missing.
Mertz has two years of eligibility at Florida.
