Williams excited about his Florida Gators offer

The Florida Gators have been very been active in offering 2022 prospects the last few months and that has allowed them to expand their board for the class.

2022 receiver CJ Williams (6-2, 193, Santa Ana, CA. Mater Dei) is one of the latest guys to pick up an offer from the Gators after he talked to one of the assistant coaches.

“Coach [Billy] Gonzales was the coach offered me,” Williams said of the coach from Florida who offered him earlier this month. “Me and him have been building a relationship for some time. I actually connected with him through Coach [Cordell] Landers who was a prior coach at Florida, then from September 1st we built a genuine relationship and we jumped on FaceTime for the first time and I was blessed enough to receive the offer.”

Williams has several big offers already in his recruitment but he admits picking up an offer from the Gators was a big one.

“Honestly I was at a loss of words after getting the offer,” he said on his reaction. “Being that this was a team I grew up watching win a National Championship and now I have the opportunity to play there one day is crazy.”

While talking to receivers coach Billy Gonzales, the two connected over a NFL game that was on TV as Williams is close to a former Gators receiver that Gonzales coached.

“What’s actually funny is that we were both watching the Bears vs. Rams game when he actually made the offer,” Williams said of his conversation with Gonzales. “One of his former receivers and a guy I know and look up to a lot, Van Jefferson was playing for the Rams. Coach Gonzales kind of compared my role to him in the offense, having the ability to move around and make plays all around the field.”

Williams has built a great relationship with Gonzales and he says they have built a relationship on several different things.

“Great dude, if I had to use one word to represent me and Coach Gonzales’ relationship, it would be genuine,” he said on his relationship with Gonzales. “I feel like he never was trying to sell anything to me. Instead he was giving me information and just telling me about him as a person.”

The 2022 receiver says he has watched Florida’s offense closely and Williams likes what he sees from the offense.

“I like that their offense is really creative in getting their playmakers the ball,” Williams said of Florida’s offense. “It’s safe to say it’s a very pass oriented offense and I believe they had 14 passing touchdowns in the first 3 games. That’s big time not only for the team but also the receivers. They give them the opportunity to make plays and run a lot of plays and move at a fast pace.”
