Wiggins recaps his first conversation with Billy Napier

It has been a busy week for new Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier but on Wednesday he was able to make his first recruiting calls to Gators’ recruits.

Defensive lineman Quency Wiggins (6-6, 274, Baton Rouge, LA. Madison Prep Academy) was one of his first calls and the two have a prior relationship.

“It was good,” Wiggins said of his first talk with Napier. “Me and Coach Napier sort of have a relationship already, I met him at an LSU camp a couple of summers ago. We’ve just kept that relationship going from there.”

Napier’s message was short and to the point to Wiggins about why Florida is the place to be for the Louisiana native.

“He just told me that they have a couple of Louisiana guys at Florida already and to talk to them about why they choose Florida,” he said on the message from Napier. “He was just trying to get to know me better.”

Wiggins has been interested in the Gators during his recruitment and defensive line coach David Turner is a big reason why.

“It’s at a for real high,” Wiggins said on his interest in Florida now. “Me and Coach Turner have a good relationship, that has been a guy that I have always enjoyed talking too.”

Next up for Wiggins will be a visit to the instate Tigers as the defensive lineman will have a chance to meet new head coach Brian Kelly.

“I’m visiting LSU next weekend,” he said on his plans for next weekend. “I don’t think I will make it back for a visit [to Florida].”

Napier will have to get to work quickly on Wiggins as the defensive lineman will announce in the coming weeks.

“I’m announcing on the 15th of December,” Wiggins said. “I’m early enrolling.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Billy Napier will be in Louisiana on Monday to conduct an in-home visit with Wiggins. While getting Wiggins on campus next weekend would be big, the lineman has already seen everything in Gainesville so Monday’s visit is very key.
