Whittemore calls his Florida Gators offer “special”

The Florida Gators have offered a lot of 2023 prospects since the summer and that included a few guys who camped at Florida for Friday Night Lights.

2023 receiver Creed Whittemore (5-11, 175, Gainesville, FL. Buchholz) was in Gainesville for Friday Night Lights and earned an offer from the Gators.

“After Friday Night Lights, they had a barbeque, I went up to Coach Mullen’s office and he offered me there,” Whittemore said on who offered him in July. “He just kind of told me that they had been watching my sophomore highlights and watching me. He said he thinks that I can play at a high level, and he wants me to be a Gator.”

Whittemore has family ties to the Gators with his brother Trent playing for the team, couple that with being from Gainesville and this is a big offer for the 2023 receiver.

“I think for me, growing up in Gainesville, getting a Florida offer is probably more special than any other offer a Gainesville kid can get,” he said on what the offer means to him. “There’s a lot of hype because people say oh, he’s got a Florida offer.

Receivers coach Billy Gonzales worked with Whittemore a lot during Friday Night Lights and the 2023 receiver learned some things from the veteran assistant coach.

“Working with Coach Gonzales, I enjoyed it,” he said on getting the chance to work out for Billy Gonzales. “I like it because of his knowledge of the game and his ability to teach and correct things.”

Gonzales had a message for Whittemore after the camp about wanting the receiver to play for him in the future.

“His message was encouraging, kind of the same as Coach Mullen’s,” Whittemore said on the message from Gonzales. “He likes what I do, and he thinks I’m a good player and I think he enjoyed working with me and wants to do it for the next four years.”

Whittemore has an up close view of the Gators program and he believes in the direction the Gators are going under Dan Mullen.

“I think the biggest thing for a high school athlete is to see if a school wins football games and Florida does a great job of that,” he said on what he thinks of the direction of the program. “Coach Mullen and his staff, love winning football games. Florida fans can be tough, but I think Coach Mullen focuses his program on winning football games.”
