Walker still considering an official visit to Gainesville after Saturday’s visit to UF

The Florida Gators pulled off the upset of the Utah Utes on Saturday but the need for help on both lines of scrimmages was clear, and the Gators had several top targets on both lines in attendance on Saturday.

UCF defensive tackle commit John Walker (6-3, 310, Kissimmee, FL. Osceola) was on campus and liked how the Gators played to open the season.

“It was good, the atmosphere was really loud,” Walker said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “It was a lot of people and they played really well.”

Walker was impressed by the play of the defensive line, and he noticed that they need bodies up front to help them stay fresh late in games.

“They were a little gassed because it was a long game,” he said on his thoughts on the defensive line play. “They’re a little low on depth but I think they played really well, and they were flying to the ball, and they played pretty good.”

Defensive line coach Sean Spencer and the rest of the coaching staff are making sure to let Walker know that the Gators still want him in Gainesville despite his commitment to UCF.

“They were just saying that this is it and that I see what they’re doing on the defensive line,” Walker said on the message from the coaching staff. “That I see guys flying around and not guys just staying in the gap. They text me like they used to text me, and they still need me in their program.”

The defensive tackle has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville, and he admits he likes several things about Florida.

“I like them, yeah,” he said on if he still has an interest in Florida. “I like the fans, and I like the atmosphere.”

Before Walker committed to UCF, the defensive tackle was going to take an official visit to Gainesville for the LSU game and Walker says that the official visit may still happen after Saturday’s visit.

“I’m thinking about it,” Walker said on if he will take an official visit to Florida. “I just wanted to see how they played in the game; I liked what I have seen so I might take an official here. It would be the LSU game.”
