Walker “really likes” the Florida Gators despite being committed to UCF

The Florida Gators had a huge visitors list for the LSU game on Saturday night and several of their top targets were in attendance for the game.

UCF defensive line commit John Walker (6-3, 310, Kissimmee, FL. Osceola) was on campus and he enjoyed the atmosphere despite the Gators coming up short.

“It was good, I had a good time,” Walker said on his visit to Florida. “I liked the atmosphere; I know they came up short, but I still had a good time. The atmosphere stood out and I liked the way they played when it came to big plays. I know that was a bad call [Gervon Dexter’s roughing the pass] they made.”

Walker paid close attention to the defensive line and noticed that there was playing time available, but he also noticed a defense that played hard.

“I liked the effort, and they play all four quarters,” he said of the Gators’ defense. “That’s what I really like, they haven’t given up.”

While on campus Walker had the chance to talk with head coach Billy Napier, defensive line coach Sean Spencer and several other coaches who had a message for him.

“Coach Napier, Coach Spencer, Coach PT [Patrick Toney], Coach [Jamar] Chaney, I’ll just say all of the coaches,” Walker said on the coaches he talked to. “They were just saying that they need guys like me and that they really want me. They just want to keep on building the bond.”

Spencer has been the main contact for Walker during his recruitment and he just wants the UCF commit to keep the Gators on his mind.

“He just keeps on telling me to keep them in mind,” he said on the message from Spencer. “Keep them in the running because they aren’t going to give up until I sign these papers. He wants me to do the official visit so he can really break things down for me and show me how he coaches.”

Walker has been trying to plan an official visit to Gainesville and he hopes to finalize those plans with Spencer this week.

“I’m trying to do it in December,” he said on when he may take an official visit to Florida. “The reason I couldn’t do it this weekend was because my family has to work and it’s hard for them to take time off.”

Despite being committed to UCF, Walker has a lot of interest in Florida as he has been to four of the Gators’17 home games this year.

“I really like Florida, you see me here a lot,” Walker said on his interest in Florida. “I really do like Florida. I’m still committed to UCF, I like them a lot. Miami is here too but it’s mostly UCF and Florida.”
