Underwood breaks down his Florida Gators virtual visit

Dan Mullen has always been a head coach that was focused on special teams and last week he did a virtual visit with a specialist.

Long snapper Rocco Underwood (6-4, 220, Lake Mary, FL. High) was on a virtual visit with the Gators coaching staff last week.

“The visit was great and they had me talk to my position coaches, nutritionist and the athletic training director,” Underwood said of his virtual visit to Florida. ‘They also showed me around their facility now and how it’s going to look after they do the facility upgrade.”

One thing that stood out to Underwood was the Gators new facility that’s coming along, plus the chance to talk to the coaching staff.

“I loved how they showed me the new facility, which is going to come in the December after my freshman season,” he said on what stood out to him. “Talking to Coach [Dan] Mullen, Coach [Greg] Knox, Coach [Shayne] Graham and Coach [Tim] Brewster too.”

Mullen and Florida has told Underwood that his main spot will be as a long snapper but he could also provide depth elsewhere.

“They want me as a long staffer but the coaching staff said I can be a depth guy at tight end,” Underwood said of the message from the coaches. “They like that I can play both positions.”

Underwood says his interest in Florida is high and he knows a lot about the Gators because of some family members.

“It’s a great feeling to have an offer from your home university, also there’s a legacy there at Florida,” he said on his interest in Florida. “I have cousins that played football at Florida, Johnny and Tommy Townsend and my sister is going into her sophomore year there.”

The Gators have another SEC school that has also offered Underwood that’s creating some competition for the long snapper.

“Florida and Alabama are my top two,” Underwood said. “I’m also getting recruited by Arkansas, FAU, FSU, Liberty, Holy Cross and Marshall.”
