Torrence can see himself at UF: Florida Gators recruiting

It wasn’t a large Florida Gators recruiting visitors list for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt because next week’s will be rather big but there were still a few good players in the Swamp on Saturday.

One of those in the south endzone on Saturday was 2020 defensive back Rashad Torrence (6-0, 185, Marietta, GA. High) who enjoyed the game and the atmosphere the Swamp had to offer.

“It went well, I felt welcomed,” Torrence said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “The crowd is just crazy as far as the amount of noise there. The fans and crowd were electric. I can’t wait to get back down there again.”

Torrence was able to do a lot while in Gainesville on Saturday including talking to two Gator coaches.

“I watched Gator walk and the game,” he said on what all he did on his visit. “I spoke with several coaches including Coach [Jim] McElwain and Coach [Corey] Bell. I was also able to walk around the field before the game.”

Defensive backs coach Corey Bell had the opportunity to work with Torrence this summer and that came up on Saturday.

“He said that he remembered me from camp this summer,” Torrence said of what Bell told him. “He said that he appreciated me coming down and he wanted me to get back down there for more games to watch them.”

Head coach Jim McElwain also made sure to make Torrence feel welcomed on Saturday before the game.

“He also said he remembered me from camp,” he said of McElwain’s message to him. “He was excited for me to get down there and he was glad that I was able to see what the Gators had to display.”

Torrence like any other defensive player paid close attention to the defense and he liked the number of freshmen playing on Saturday.

“I love it,” Torrence said on Florida playing freshmen on defense. “It shows that they play the most talented and the ones who can get the job done and not the ones that have been in the program the longest.”

This was the first time to campus since Torrence picked up his offer this summer and he admits Florida is a school in the mix for him.

“Florida has a good felt to it and it’s definitely somewhere I can see myself playing on Saturday afternoons,” he said on Florida stands with him. “I don’t have any leaders or anything right now though.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Torrence is one of the top guys in the 2020 class and already has offers from Alabama, Florida among others. The Gators will be a school in the mix for Torrence down the stretch.
