Thompkins has the Florida Gators neck and neck with Baylor

2Multiple offensive linemen were on campus for the Florida Gators this past weekend including two out-of-state prospects.

Offensive lineman Sean Thompkins (6-4, 331, Covington, GA. Newton) made his second trip to Gainesville this weekend and was hosted by a familiar name.

“It was great, I really love the coaches,” Thompkins said of his visit to Florida. “Out of all the visits I’ve been on these players are some of the best guys I’ve ever been around. My player host [Jalen Farmer] is actually from the same town as me so we had a good time.

Offensive line coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton spent a lot of time with Thompkins in the film and just getting to know each other over the weekend.

“I got to spend time with Coach Sale and Coach Stapleton,” he said on the coaches he spent time with. “We sat down and watched some film and they told me some great things about myself that they liked while also telling me things I could get better at, but I had a great conversation with them.

Meeting them for the first time was big for Thompkins and Sale had a simple message for the lineman.

“It was great because they told me they had some things to tell me but they couldn’t,” Thompkins said on his conversation with Rob Sale. “Some things they remember some things they couldn’t. They told me to just trust my gut and to just follow my heart so that way when I make my decision, I’ll have no regrets.

Sale and Stapleton believe Thompkins can play multiple positions on the line so they haven’t given him a specific position yet.

“They haven’t really gone too far into depth with that,” he said on if they talked about a position with him. “They said they were but that they will go more into depth with that when or if I sign. They potentially see a spot for me at all 5 positions.

After the visit, Thompkins says he likes Florida a lot for a couple of reasons and that has the Gators on his mind now.

“The culture and the people here,” he said on what he likes about Florida. “It’s just really a great place. They are really really high for me. I really like it here and I could see myself playing here.

Next up for Thompkins will likely be another visit to Gainesville as the lineman wants to make a decision in the next month or so.

“I want to do it before the season so that way I can just worry about football,” Thompkins said on when he wants to decide. “Florida, Baylor, and Kentucky are standing out but Florida and Baylor are neck and neck right now. I’ll be here [Florida on] the 29th at the cookout.
