On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted their biggest remaining target on campus for the South Carolina game.
Texas receiver commit Easton Royal (5-11, 214, New Orleans, LA. Brother Martin) was on campus and he says the staff treated him well.
“They always do a great job, me and my family always have a good time,” Royal said on his time at Florida. “Coming up here it feels like a family, hospitality and anything we need. They did a great job.”
Royal didn’t like to see the Gators’ lose on Saturday but he says missing several key players is a big reason why they struggled on Saturday.
“It’s obviously not good to see but it proves that Florida is one of the best teams in the country, but they have things to work on,” Royal said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I feel like a big part of that is the injuries. Missing Vernell [Brown], Eric Singleton played but he can’t get going like he wants too.”
Heading into the game, Royal wanted to see more of the passing game but he says he understands why that didn’t happen on Saturday.
“I wasn’t to mad about it, it wasn’t really affecting my decision,” he said on not seeing a lot of down field throws. “When they were healthy, they were doing very well. They were passing the ball very well, in the Auburn game and the Ole Miss game. They showed a little flash today [Saturday] but you can tell they’re missing Vernell and Eric Singleton.”
One thing that Royal did notice and the staff has been telling him is that he could fit into the offense and be a big piece on offense.
“100 hundred percent, that’s the main piece they’ve been trying to instill in me,” Royal said on being the missing piece for the team. “They tell me that Eric Singleton will be gone and they will need me to come in and replace him and stretch the field. Be the missing piece to the offense.”
Royal says he really isn’t looking at the record of teams this year as he knows Florida and LSU will both improve next year.
“100 hundred percent playing time and development,” he said on what means the most to him. “Right now, not just Florida but LSU too, this year is going to be the worst teams. Not saying that the team is bad, but Coach Sumrall and Coach Kiffin didn’t have a full offseason or full recruitment to get the team they want. I’m not letting the teams play this year affect me.”
The Texas commit wants to be developed at the next level and he likes how many different coaches are at his position at Florida.
“I think Florida’s development is really strong,” Royal said. “Out of the three schools, they’re they only school to have like 3 different receiver coaches. You can learn a different thing from each coach. The best thing about it is that there’s no jealousy in the room.”
Florida, LSU, and Texas are the remaining three teams in the mix for Royal and he has two more visits before he wants to make a final decision.
“I have a Florida vs. Texas and then LSU vs. Texas games,” he said on what’s next for him. “The next step would be a decision so that will be in November and December 2nd will probably be two or three weeks away.”
