Tarquin still listening to the Florida Gators despite Miami commitment

The Florida Gators only had a few 2019 prospects on campus on Saturday but the ones that were on campus were big targets for Dan Mullen and the coaching staff.

Miami offensive line commit Michael Tarquin (6-5, 290, Belleview, FL. North Marion) was on campus in Gainesville and he likes where things are heading for Florida.

“It was great, great atmosphere,” Tarquin said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “Obviously they didn’t play how they would’ve liked too but it’s Mullen’s first year and I really think they’re going to turn things around.”

Tarquin knows that the Gators aren’t where they want to be yet but he thinks over the next few years Mullen will get Florida back to where he wants them to be.

“It’s great, Mullen is doing a lot for the program,” he said on his thoughts on the year as a whole under Mullen. “It’s his first year and I think he can do much more once he’s here for a long period of time.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy has been working hard with the offensive line this year and Tarquin sees the improvement this year with that unit.

“I think it has been much better than last year,” Tarquin said of the offensive line under Hevesy. “I think highly of Coach Hevesy and I think Florida’s offensive line has been much better.”

Despite the improved play, Tarquin still sees an opportunity for early playing time in Gainesville as he sees room for improvement under Hevesy.

“Yeah of course with any team there’s always room for improvement,” he said on if he sees room for improvement at Florida. “That just comes with them getting adjusted to the new coach and getting coached up by the new coach.”

Tarquin got to talk with several coaches on Saturday and they just had a simple and quick recruiting pitch for him.

“I mean obviously they want me to come here,” he said on the recruiting pitch from Florida. “It’s nothing big but they just keep recruiting me. It’s pretty simple they want me to be a Gator.”

This is the first time for Tarquin to visit Gainesville since April and he says the Gators are staying in constant contact with him.

“I mean obviously I came and looked at a game because it’s so close and they keep recruiting me a lot,” Tarquin said on if he’s open to Florida. “I’m still committed to Miami.”

Next up for Tarquin could be an other official visit but the Miami commit says he isn’t sure of what’s next for him.

“If I wanted too I could take four other officials but I’ve only taken one to Oklahoma,” he said on official visits. “Right now I don’t know yet, I just have to see how things go.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Tarquin says he will be enrolling somewhere in January but he still thinks highly of Mark Richt and Miami and remains committed to the Hurricanes.
