On Saturday, the Florida Gators coaching staff hosted two quarterbacks on campus as the staff looks for their quarterback in the 2023 class.
Quarterback Marcus Stokes (6-2, 185, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Nease) was on campus for the first time and he believes in what Billy Napier is building in Gainesville.
“It was my first visit, I’ve been to a couple of games, but this is my first time interacting with the coaches,” Stokes said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I think they’re building a great program here and great culture. The coaches are doing a really good job recruiting.”
While on campus, Stokes had the chance to talk with multiple coaches who coach his position.
“I talked to Coach [Ryan] O’Hara a lot, I got to talk to Coach Napier a little bit, pretty much everybody,” he said on the coaches he talked to on Saturday. “I talked to everybody that works with the quarterbacks, I got to talk to them a lot. They’re all great people.”
The coaching staff explained to Stokes on Saturday just how he would fit into the offense, and they showed him what to watch during practice as well.
“They were just saying that they think that I would be a good fit for their offense,” Stokes said on the message from the staff. “Stuff like that, I thought practice was run well. I think I would fit very well in their offense.”
Stokes was hoping to pick up an offer from the Gators during the visit but that didn’t happen, but the quarterback says he plans to return to town again soon.
“Not yet,” he said on if Florida talked about an offer with him. “It would be a real big one for me, but my recruitment is open. I think we’re going to try and come back for the spring game.”
Next up for Stokes will be a tour to see several schools that are recruiting him and have offered him already.
“I’ve got a one-week tour that we’re going to hit some schools,” he said on what’s next for him. “I think the farthest out west school we’re going to hit is Ole Miss and then we might hit a couple of schools heading to Indiana and then we will head back to Pennsylvania and hit some schools like Cincinnati, I’m going back to Penn State.”
