Stinson high on the Florida Gators despite being an Auburn commit

The Florida Gators have expanded their defensive backs board a lot since the Gators added both Wesley McGriff and Jules Montinar to the staff.

One new name to the board is Auburn cornerback commit Jarell Stinson (5-10, 160, Opelika, AL. High) who had a virtual visit with the staff last week.

“It went pretty well, I learned a lot of new stuff that I didn’t know about,” Stinson said of his virtual visit with Florida last week. “Coach [Nick] Savage, Dan Mullen, the director of recruiting, Crime Dog [Wesley McGriff], Coach Jules [Montinar], and a few other coaches.”

Stinson has never been on campus in Gainesville so last week was the first chance for him to see what the campus is like and what Florida has to offer off the field.

“They had pretty some good presentations up of what the campus is like and what it has to offer,” he said on what he learned about Florida. “I liked the education definitely and the new facility they’re building.”

Cornerbacks coach Wesley McGriff explained during the virtual visit where he likes Stinson to play at if he were to choose the Gators.

“He says he can definitely see me playing corner for them because I have a lot of speed,” Stinson said of the message from McGriff. “He said something about moving around a little bit but not much, just mainly corner.”

McGriff received Stinson’s commitment back when he was coaching at Auburn and that relationship has continued since the coach arrived in Gainesville.

“It’s a really good relationship,” he said of the relationship with McGriff. “Him going to Florida made it stronger I think because it showed that he’s still interested in me. I’ve talked to some of the players that he’s coached and they all say what a great coach he is.”

Despite being an Auburn commit, Stinson says the Gators are high in his recruitment following the virtual visit.

“I’m keeping my options open,” Stinson said of his commitment to Auburn. “I think they’re [Florida] is really high on the list. UCF and Tennessee are recruiting me hard too.”
