Spivey Senses: edition 5

Although the Gators have lost their last two games and have dropped out of the top 25 poll, Florida fans need to step away from the ledge and take a couple of deep breaths. As much as it might seem like the sky is falling on the field, it’s a different story with recruits. At the moment, they seem to be holding steady for Florida.

In this edition of Spivey Sense, Gator Country caught up with some of the commits to find out how this season is affecting them if at all. In addition to updates about the Gators, there are updates from around the SEC and with our fine friends from out west and down south in the state of Florida.

Quarterback Will Grier

I’m 100% committed to Florida.”

Defensive end Khairi Clark

I feel that Florida needs to step it up. I feel they aren’t playing to the best of their ability right now but I’m a Gator.”

Defensive end Taven Bryan

The past few weeks have no effect on me. I’m going to be a Gator.”

Cornerback Duke Dawson

I’m solid to Florida.”

Offensive lineman Travaris Dorsey

Florida needs help on the line but I think that I can help them out,” Dorsey said. “I’m a Gator.”

Offensive lineman Dontae Angus

When I get to Florida we won’t have any more losses. I’m solid.”

Now that we have talked about the reactions of those already committed to Florida let’s talk about the rumblings going around.

RB: 1 committed (Dalvin Cook), 1 more is wanted.

Top remaining target Bo Scarbrough was in South Bend this weekend visiting Notre Dame for its big game against USC. Scarbrough told Gator Country he wants to visit Florida but doesn’t have a set date but we are told that he will be in town for the banquet weekend for an official.

While we are talking about running backs we need to also talk about Dalvin Cook as he has set up an official to Florida State for the North Carolina State game next weekend. Anytime you have commits visiting other schools you should be concerned but Cook continues to be very close with Travaris Robinson and has been up front with his plans.

TE: 1 committed (C’yontia Lewis), 1 more is needed.

Tight end target DeAndre Goolsby was in Arkansas two weeks ago for the Razorbacks’ big game against South Carolina and all reports are that he had a good visit. One source told me that while he had a good visit the feeling is that the lure of playing in the state of Florida is something that will help the Gators. Kansas State is the last official for Goolsby and then an announcement should come shortly after that.

Offensive line: 3 committed (Dontae Angus, Travaris Dorsey, Nolan Kelleher), 2 more needed.

I wish I could give everyone some new news on the offensive line but right now that’s something I can’t do but during this bye week you should be on the lookout for some new names to pop up on the board especially from the JUCO side of things.

One positive note is that Arkansas offensive line commit Jovan Pruitt is planning to take an official to Florida. Right now the 6-5, 275-pound lineman looks to be just taking a free visit but you never know when a kid visits.

SPIVEY MOMENT:

The coaching staff knows and understands they must add more playmakers in this class and recruiting will be a priority during the bye week.”

BYE WEEK VISITS:

Joker Phillips is expected to visit JUCO receiver Eric Lauderdale on Saturday.

A Florida coach is also expected to visit with cornerback prospect Adoree’ Jackson and linebacker prospect Dwight Williams this week.

While Florida is out in California you can almost bet that a coach will check in on tight end target Bryce Dixon.

AROUND THE SEC:

Alabama: There are some rumors that the Crimson Tide may be starting to revisit the possibility of adding Jordan Sims to the class after news that one of their lineman may not qualify. If Alabama decides they want Sims then things should conclude quickly. Sims wants to be in Tuscaloosa the next 4-5 years.

Arkansas: The Razorbacks staff feels like they have a good shot at landing tight end DeAndre Goolsby but they also believe that it will be tough to beat Florida too.

Arkansas now has to worry some as top offensive line commit Jovan Pruitt plans to take visits and one will be to Ole Miss.

Auburn: With the big win over Texas A&M in College Station, Auburn is on a high note in recruiting and one of its top targets is offensive lineman Josh Casher of Mobile, Alabama, who decommitted from Auburn back in July. Casher is the teammate of Auburn commit Tre Williams and the feeling is Casher will recommit to Auburn soon.

Georgia: The Bulldogs continue to pursue offensive lineman David Sharpe and right now appear to have the upper edge due to Sharpe’s father.

Kentucky: Once a Florida signee, Jarran Reed has become a top target for the Wildcats and with his former JUCO defensive line coach now at Kentucky the Wildcats have a great shot at landing him.

LSU: Adoree Jackson and Malachi Dupre both enjoyed their visit to LSU when the Tigers hosted Florida two weeks ago. Sources tell me that LSU feels like they have a good shot at both but would like to get Jackson back on campus again for another visit.

Ole Miss: The Rebels hosted Florida target Clifton Garrett on an official this past weekend and reports are that Ole Miss made up some ground for the Illinois native. Ole Miss is also making a big run at offensive lineman Jordan Sims and if Alabama doesn’t take him the Rebels could be in great position for him.

Missouri: With all of its recent success the Tigers have seen more and more prospects talking about Missouri.

South Carolina: The Gamecocks are now trying to lure Florida commit Chris Lammons to officially visit South Carolina after football season. Right now it’s unclear if it will happen but South Carolina was a finalist for Lammons when he committed to Florida.

Tennessee: With Tennessee’s big over South Carolina recruits are now seeing what Butch Jones has been talking about as far as the program improving. One recruit who noticed was JUCO receiver Eric Lauderdale who was tweeting about the Vols a lot on Saturday.

Texas A&M: I look for the Aggies to offer former Florida State and Notre Dame offensive lineman Jordan Prestwood soon. Prestwood is playing JUCO football in Arizona this fall.

FROM OUR FINE FRIENDS OUT WEST AND DOWN SOUTH IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA

Florida State: The Noles are quietly moving up for prospects like David Sharpe and Marlon Humphrey both are expected to be in Tally for the Miami game.

Joe Mixon is in the process of setting up an official visit to Florida State as well.

Miami: Miami is trying desperately hard to get back in with Dalvin Cook and Ermon Lane but neither have plans to visit Coral Gables again. I’m told the Canes staff are trying hard to secure an official from both prospects.

SHOT ACROSS THE BOW

Florida State and Miami are having great years on the field but it’s not necessarily helping them in recruiting as both have good but not great classes.

Top Five most likely as of October 20th
