Sorey has the Florida Gators in his top five following Saturday’s visit

A number of instate prospects were in Gainesville on Saturday to watch the Florida Gators go through spring practice.

Receiver Daquayvious Sorey (6-2, 185, Chipley, FL. High) made his first trip to Gainesville in several years and enjoyed his time in town.

“It was great, I liked the visit today,” Sorey said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I got to communicate and build a relationship with the new coaches on the staff.”

Sorey didn’t have to look far to find a familiar face that he was comfortable with, and the receiver says that’s something that helps Florida.

“Lamar Sorey [his cousin] is here,” he said about having a family member at Florida. “Having somebody that’s already at Florida and knowing that’s my cousin, that’s the key because that’s somebody that I can talk too, and I can build a relationship with the coaches on the staff.”

Sorey’s cousin who’s on Florida’s support staff has told the receiver just what it takes to play at Florida and what the coaches expect.

“He tells me what the coaches are looking for in the players,” Sorey said on what his cousin has told him. “He says to keep my grades up, watch how I move around, and watch who I’m hanging around.”

While on campus, head coach Billy Napier and several other coaches spoke with Sorey and made sure to tell him to come back for another visit.

“Coach Billy, Coach KC [Keary Colbert], Ms. Katie [Turner], and Lamar obviously,” he said on the coaches he spent time with. “They want me to come again really.”

Sorey also had the chance to watch receivers coach Keary Colbert in action and the receiver likes the coach’s history of putting guys into the league.

“It was fun, he’s real energetic,” Sorey said on watching Colbert in practice. “He ran routes today [Saturday], I got to see him move around a little bit. That’s something I want to be a part of [his resume of coaching receivers]. I would love Coach KC to coach me.”

After the visit, Sorey says the Gators have risen in his recruitment because of a few reasons.

“They’re top five,” Sorey said on his interest in Florida. “I like the culture, really how the coaches have a good relationship with each other, and they connect with the players a lot.”

Sorey left Georgia’s class earlier this year but he says several other SEC schools are staying in touch with him and he doesn’t plan to make a decision until later this year.

“Bama, Miami, Florida, Kansas, Marshall, Kentucky, and Georgia,” he said on schools keeping in touch with him. “I’m in talks with LSU about coming back there and then I’m going to visit Penn State.”
