Smith breaks down his visit to see the Florida Gators on Friday

On Friday night, the Florida Gators coaching staff closed out the month of June with a big night of recruiting as several top targets were on campus for the camp.

2023 defensive lineman Stantavious Smith (6-3, 250, Albany, GA. Dougherty) was on campus and enjoyed his time with the coaching staff.

“The visit was great, I just took an unofficial visit to work out at camp,” Smith said of his visit to Florida on Friday. “The camp was great; I loved the energy; we definitely got some work in with Coach [David] Turner.”

Defensive line coach David Turner has been recruiting Smith for months now and he was excited to work with the 2023 lineman in person.

“He said it’s great to see you big Stan, now let’s work,” he said of the message from Coach Turner. “He said stay focused and keeping working, that’s really all he was just happy to have me there.”

Turner explained to Smith after the camp where the Gators want the lineman to play at but also explained to him that he could move around some.

“He sees me at defensive tackle,” Smith said on where Turner wants him to play. “I told him that I’m an all-around player so wherever I can make an impact at on the field that I will play that position.”

After seeing the campus and the coaches for the first time on Friday, Smith says the Gators are one of his top teams and he plans to return to Gainesville soon.

“They’re definitely top 10,” he said on his interest in Florida. “I love the energy and the environment at Florida. I’m going to catch a game this season there.”

Next up for Smith will be several other visits to other SEC teams once the dead period opens back up in July.

“Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M are the next stops,” Smith said on other visits coming up.
