Smack sees a more motivating vision under Billy Napier’s coaching staff

The Florida Gators hosted three of their signees on campus this weekend as those guys were able to take a second official visit because of the coaching change.

Kicker signee Trey Smack (6-2, 200, Severna Park, MD. High) was on campus and got to meet Billy Napier and new special team’s analyst Chris Couch.

“It was a great experience just getting to know all of the coaches,” Smack said on his official visit to Florida. “Getting to meet Coach Napier and the new special team coordinator or I should say game changer coordinator now. I got to see what Gainesville is all about. I love it here.”

This was the first time for Smack to meet all of the new coaching staff, but he says Florida was the choice for him for other reasons.

“I committed to the school not the coaching staff,” he said. “I’m a student-athlete first and that’s just how it is.”

The kicker was able to see game changer coordinator Chris Couch for the first time and they talked about the work they need to put in before next fall.

“It was awesome, it was a great experience meeting him,” Smack said on meeting Chris Couch. “Just the beginning, we have to get to work.”

Last week, Napier visited Smack for an in-home visit, but he says this weekend he was able to hang around Napier longer.

“It was awesome,” he said on meeting Napier for the first time. “He’s a great guy, got to meet him and got to see what he’s like and his game plan. We’re set.”

The Gators’ have recently started to produce several NFL kickers and punters and that’s something that has caught Smack’s attention.

“Florida’s [history] is a good reason I came here,” he said on Florida’s recent history with kickers in the NFL. “The kickers here, Eddy Pineiro, Evan McPherson and Townsend they’re all in the league.”

While on the visit one of the Gators walk-on quarterbacks hosted Smack and explained how things are different under Napier.

“Kyle Ingle,” Smack on who his host was. “He said he loved them [new coaching staff] and they’re doing great things with the coaching staff. There’s going to be a lot of changes.”

Smack was also able to see how Napier’s plan for the Gators’ future is different than the previous coaching staff.

“A little bit more motivating,” Smack said on the different vision with this coaching staff.
