Simpson breaks down recent Florida Gators offer

The Florida Gators already have their quarterback for the 2021 class and now the coaching staff has turned their attention to the 2022 class at that position.

On Friday, the Gators offered 2022 quarterback Ty Simpson (6-2, 185, Martin, TN. Westview) after the quarterback talked to the Gators.

“Coach [Brian] Johnson was the one to offer me,” Simpson said on the coach from Florida who offered him. “He was just like you know Ty, we watched your film and we think you’re going to be a great player and we would like to offer you here at the University of Florida.”

Simpson was surprised to pick up the offer from the Gators so soon and the offer means a lot because of Dan Mullen’s history with his position.

“They’ve been in touch for a little awhile but I never knew if they were going to offer me or not,” he said on his reaction to the offer. “With Coach [Dan] Mullen’s past quarterbacks and how good they’re, it means a lot to get the offer and to be able to play in the SEC East makes it even better.”

Quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson explained to Simpson on Friday just what the Gators like about the quarterback’s game.

“I can throw from different arm slots and get out of the pocket and that’s what they like about me,” Simpson said on what Johnson told him about his game. “Coach Johnson said that he was going to get Coach Mullen on facetime with me to talk more.”

Simpson is no stranger to Mullen and his offense as his father is the head coach at UT-Martin and also watched a lot of Mullen’s past teams.

“It does, I remember him at Mississippi State because my dad played there,” he said on if Mullen’s history catches his attention. “My dad was impressed by their offense and how good it was and his offense is even better at Florida with all of the athletes, it makes it real fun. I’m very impressed with Coach Mullen and every since he’s been at Florida he hasn’t had a down year.”

The quarterback was in the Swamp last year when his father played against the Gators but Simpson would like to return to Gainesville for another visit.

“I would love to come down for a game that my dad isn’t playing in,” Simpson said on if he wants to visit Florida. “I have a good feeling about the Swamp from my dad playing there this past year.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Simpson says he wants to make an early decision so he can help recruit other guys to join him at whichever school he picks.
