Shelton breaks down last week’s Florida Gators’ offer

Last week, the Florida Gators coaching staff offered several underclassmen prospects from several different states as they look to expand their recruiting board for the class of 2022.

2022 offensive lineman Drew Shelton (6-5, 255, Downingtown, PA. West) picked up the offer after he talked to one of the Gators assistant coaches.

“Coach [John] Hevesy offered me,” Shelton said on who offered him from Florida. “He said they liked my game and the way I bend and see a lot of potential in me.”

Shelton has 20 offers already but last week’s offer was a big one because of the conference the Gators play in.

“I was very excited about the offer,” he said on what the offer means to him. “It’s my first SEC offer and I know they play very good football in the SEC.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy didn’t specify a position for Shelton but did explain to him what the Gators like about his game and how he could fit into the offensive line in Gainesville.

“He didn’t get into much about that yet, he told me he thinks I’m a great fit and that I will do very well in their offense,” Shelton said on where Hevesy wants him to play. “He just said that they liked how I’m able to bend and play with a lot of intensity.

Shelton admits that he wants to learn more about the Gators program but he does know a few things about Florida.

“Mainly just that they’re historically a top 25 team every year,” he said on what he knows about Florida. “They’re also a top 10 academic school, I need to do my research on them and their offense.”

The Gators aren’t the only school recruiting Shelton hard as several other top programs are after the lineman.

“Penn State, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Michigan and Stanford,” Shelton said on other schools recruiting him hard.
