The Florida Gators recruiting efforts are doing well and this week’s recruiting mailbag had a lot of great questions about not only the class of 2016 but also some early questions about the class of 2017 how the Florida Gators recruiting board looks.

As you have noticed Gator Country and Andrew Spivey have mixed things up and we have taken our recruiting mailbag to podcast form as well as continuing the written of version of the mailbag.

Make sure to listen as Andrew answers everyone’s questions from this mailbag and don’t forget to get your questions in every week so he can answer your question next time on all things Florida Gators recruiting.

Here’s the written version of this week’s mailbag:

Gatorfan228: Obviously there are a lot of WR targets this year, what do you think our board looks like and where do you think our current WR commits fall on that board?

AS: I really like Josh Hammond and I think he’s going to end up being a very good football player at Florida. The Gators receiver board still has Miami Hurricanes commit Sam Bruce, Binjimen Victor (even though Florida is fading here), Nate Craig-Myers and Freddie Swain. Florida is trending up with Swain and Craig-Myers.

Wesstump: What position or positions look to be the strongest for the 2017 class in the state of Florida? Is there a lot of interest now from the top recruits for UF? I know the interest will increase with time, I was just wondering about now.

AS: Running back, receiver, offensive line and defensive backs are all pretty strong instate for Florida next year. Florida is doing well for a lot of top 2017 targets including defensive end Zachary Carter, WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR James Robinson and CB Marco Wilson.

Hgators: Would you say Donovan Peoples-Jones is one of our top targets for 2017?

AS: Absolutely and the Gators are fighting USC here. Peoples-Jones loves Jim McElwain and Doug Nussmeier and he has already visited the Gators once.

Oldfaithful: How many O linemen do you see us getting in 16 and what is the target number for the 17 class? Which prospect is a must get in both classes? Thanks for everything you do AS!

AS: Florida wants one-two more in the class of 2016 and I think get Marcus Tatum and then most likely one more JUCO offensive lineman to help fill the gap that Mason Halter will create when he graduates. In 2017, it’s hard to say an exact number but Florida wants to take 4-5 offensive linemen every year so that should be a ball park number for 2017.

Gator_nica: Who are the top 5 skills players for 2017 that UF is after? What are the chances with them?

AS: RB A.J. Davis of Lakeland (Florida leads Clemson), WR James Robinson of Lakeland (Florida and Clemson battling), WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (Florida and USC are battling), Miami Hurricanes TE ommit Tre McKitty and RB Devan Barrett (Florida leads).

JerseyGator: AS, discuss the 2017 LBer board, potential candidates and chances. We sure need a bunch of them!!!

AS: The linebacker board for next year is very slim in state right but I also don’t think they need but three again next year. Sterling Jones out of Montgomery is a guy to watch as it Robert Foster who is good friends with Jonathan Bullard. Also watch for Robert Beal out of Norcross. The board will also get much bigger.

MrB-Gator: What are the numbers for DL and LB and who is on the board that look good for us?

AS: No true cut third guy at linebacker yet but Florida is trying hard. At DL Florida is after DE’s Brian Burns, Janarius Robinson, Jordan Woods, Jachai Polite and DT’s Shavar Manuel and Dexter Lawrence. Florida is trending up for Burns, Woods and Manuel at this time.

Kdm: Top 3 recruits most likely to be the next commit?

AS: I feel good in saying that the next commits should come out of Freddie Swain, Jordan Woods and Marcus Tatum. I’m not sure when Tatum will actually make a decision but Swain and Woods have decisions planned for October.

Juggernautz: Do you & Nick have a wager on who’ll be most correct on predicting  who will be in our 2016 class?

AS: Haha we do not, but we have to try that as Nick is usually on the losing end of things when we bet.

Juggernautz: what is the allure in recruits wanting to go to Auburn w/ TOG there?

AS: Will Muschamp is a heck of a defensive football coach and that is a big draw for defensive players.

Juggernautz: Are y’all going to let Kassidy do one of these recruiting mailbags buy herself just for a change of pace?

AS: HAHA if you guys can get her to do then be my guest. You guys just have to get her to do one.

Gator_n_Bmore: I’m a little concerned that we will be losing Neal and Maye to the draft after this season are there any big time safety prospects we are in on that could contribute day one? Also do you believe that Jaewon Taylor or Lenton can compete for a starting role and/or contribute right away? We will be thin back there with just Dawson and Washington

AS: I think Lenton is the most ready guy to play and I’m also eager to see if Chauncey Gardner doesn’t get some playing time at strong safety and if he does then he could play as a freshman there.
