The Florida Gators will begin the 2020 football season with the start of fall camp on August 17.
Tuesday the Southeastern Conference adjusted the fall practice schedule to account for the delayed start to the 10-game season. The new preseason calendar was developed based on recommendations of the SEC’s Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force.
The original start date for fall camp was August 7th with the season kicking off on September 5. Last week the SEC moved to a revised 10-game, conference only schedule kicking off on September 26. The new schedule allows for teams to begin a modified practice schedule beginning Friday, August 7th. Teams will be allowed to conduct up to 14 hours of walkthrough type practices without pads or footballs. Beginning on the 17th they can, after a five-day acclimation period, begin a full and regular football camp. The new schedule will allow for 25 practices in the 40 days before the season kicks off. Teams will be required to have two scheduled off days per week and will be allowed 20 hours of practice over five days in a week.
The SEC has not released the new 10-game schedule but an announcement is expected soon.
