Recruiting reaction to the Florida Gators hiring Billy Napier

The Florida Gators have hired Billy Napier to replace Dan Mullen as head coach just one day after the Gators defeated Florida State.

Napier is now tasked with saving this recruiting class that isn’t up to par for the Gators in the 2022 class.

GatorCountry spoke with prospects in several classes to get their thoughts on Napier being hired by the Gators.

 

Quarterback commit Nick Evers-“Excited, We were hoping this was the direction and fortunately it worked out that way. We’ve been connected for a while but I’m looking forward to spending some time with him this week.”

Offensive lineman Matthew McCoy-“I don’t know much about him but hopefully he can change the program.”

2024 running back commit Jerrick Gibson-“Super excited.”

Offensive line commit David Conner-“Let’s just get in and get to work.”

Florida State offensive line commit Qaeshone Sapp-“He’s a good fit for them.”

2023 athlete Jordan Hall-“It wasn’t surprising after the win yesterday but I don’t know much about him. I just hope he makes the right decisions with the program to keep his job and support his family, players and recruits.”

2023 offensive line target Payton Kirkland-“I don’t know much about him, looking forward to building a relationship with him.”

2023 tight end commit Mac Markway-“I’m excited to meet Coach Napier and talk about his plans.”

2023 defensive back Jonas Duclona-“I don’t really know much about Coach Billy Napier. I’m just glad they found a coach. I’m hoping he brings that Florida Gators culture everyone loves back to Gainesville.”

Defensive line target Quency Wiggins-“Great pick up for Florida, I will visit them.”

2023 offensive line target Clay Wedin-“I think he will be a good fit from what I’ve heard of him. He’s a down to earth but very relentless with recruiting and culture. I’ll be interested to see who he brings in for offensive line and the strength staff. I hope to have a chance to consider Florida again as it’s a great school and program.”

2023 running back Seth Davis-“I’m super excited, he loves to run the ball and I have been in contact with him through Twitter for a week now so I’m looking forward to visiting soon.”

Defensive back Christian Harrison-“It’s a great hiring.”

2024 defensive back Fred Gaskin-“New beginnings, hopefully bigger and better things to come from the new coach.”

2023 receiver commit Darren Lawrence-“He looks like a good coach. I haven’t met him yet but I’ll meet him when I go back up there.”

2023 offensive lineman Tommy Kinsler-“I think he should be a good coach from what I hear. I will get a chance to meet him soon.”
