Recruiting Mailbag October 15th: Florida Gators recruiting

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts are  doing well and this week’s recruiting had a lot of great questions about how prospects are viewing the Florida Gators now that they are 6-0 on the season.

As you have noticed Gator Country and Andrew Spivey have mixed things up and we have taken our Florida Gators recruiting mailbag to podcast form, as well as continuing the written version of the mailbag.

Make sure to listen as Andrew answer’s everyone’s questions from this mailbag and don’t forget to get your questions in every week so he can answer your question next time on all things Florida Gators recruiting.

Here’s the written version of this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag:

TebowNut6: Deleting previous question and asking this one instead since I saw it was addressed in another thread… but also curious whom our targets now for 2016 at QB. Who are we turning the heat up on in a big, big way?

AS: Florida has been recruiting several quarterbacks really hard this year and that will continue, but the message may change some. Maryland quarterback commit Dwayne Haskins is someone that Florida could get to visit since the Terps coach was fired. The Gators will also continue to recruit LSU Tigers quarterback commit Feliepe Franks. He visited Florida State last weekend, which shows he’s open to other schools. They will also continue to recruit Clemson Tigers commit Zerrick Cooper throughout the process.

Bigemorygator: Any fall out from the Will Grier situation or does this help us out with a QB in 2016?

AS: I don’t see much fall out in a bad way at all but several prospects tweeted their support for Will Grier and the Florida Gators. I think Florida needs a quarterback for 2016 even more now but the Gators have been recruiting that position hard for a while now.

RVG: What is the status of Binjamin Victor and any news of Sam Bruce & his mom’s visit to Ohio State?

AS: Victor visits Ohio State this weekend for an official and I’m honestly not sure why they are bringing him up there so soon but maybe they will feel like they will be able to commit this early. Bruce doesn’t visit Ohio State until the Penn State game in a few weeks.

MrB-Gator: Do we get Nate Craig-Myers? And if we do are we finished with WR?

AS: The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have put them in the lead for Nate Craig-Myers after several visits to Florida but Florida will continue to recruit the position hard. Sam Bruce, Binjimen Victor, Tre Nixon and USC WR commit Velus Jones are all on the Gators board and are prospects Florida is recruiting.

Firefightinggator: how many do you think we can take as an early enrollee and off the top maybe name some players that you know may be an EE? Thanks for everything.

AS: Florida can take 8-9 early enrollees and so far Branton Autry, Chauncey Gardner, Freddie Swain, Mark Thompson and Isaiah Johnson have all said they will early enroll at Florida. Stone Forsythe and Rick Wells have both said this summer that they would enroll early but nothing has been mentioned since then.

Macbgator: Who are our the top linebacker recruits and which ones will we end up with???

AS: Mack Wilson, Tennessee Volunteers linebacker commit Jay Blakely and Miami Hurricanes commit Zach McCloud are all on the board. I know many believe that Wilson is just making drama in his recruitment but the Gators are a real threat here because of relationships and early playing time.

Hoganmac97: What’s the current situation with Eli Stove? I know he’s committed to Auburn but is Florida gaining ground with him?

AS: Florida is trying to get him on campus and Stove says he will visit, but he’s not sure of when. Stove is wavering from his commitment from Auburn right now but is still committed.

Ol2ange: Of all of our current commits, which players do you see decommiting on their own (and not being forced out of this class, for lack of a better term)? Do you think some guys from the WR board decommit? Anyone from the defensive back board?

AS: C.J. McWilliams is visiting Miami next weekend and he’s someone to watch because of that. Rick Wells and Isaiah Johnson also have visits set up elsewhere so they are ones to watch as well.

Dopplegangerg8r: Who is (are) the speed receiver(s) being recruited that can stretch the field early and often?

AS: Josh Hammond is guy that can stretch the field and Nate Craig-Myers is the same. Freddie Swain is also another guy that can stretch the field with his size and quickness. Most of the prospects that Florida is recruiting this year can stretch the field.

Gatorstuckey: I’ll add onto this. Are there any JUCO prospects we are looking at?

AS: JUCO cornerback Jamarcus King is a big JUCO target for them because they need experienced depth in the secondary. JUCO Ashton Julious is another prospect they are after to add depth on the offensive line. Of course they already have OL Branton Autry and RB Mark Thompson in the JUCO commit ranks.
