RB Trevor Etienne enters transfer portal

Sophomore running back Trevor Etienne will enter the transfer portal, according to Etienne’s social media.

“Gator Nation, what a ride it has been! I’m Forever grateful for the opportunity to put on the Orange and Blue ever Saturday, going to war with my teammates who would become my brothers for life. With that, I would like to thank coach Napier and the entire Gator staff for the continued support and guidance in my time at UF. A special thank you to coach Juluke for being a great teacher, mentor, and role model in these past two years. You’ve undoubtedly made me a better man on and off the field. My time as a Gator was an invaluable experience and one that I will cherish for years to come. At this time, I will be entering the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility remaining. The marathon continues,” Etienne wrote on Twitter (X).

The 5-9, 205 pound back burst onto the scene in 2022, recording 719 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns on 6.1 yards per attempt in his freshman campaign. In 2023, Etienne tallied 753 rushing yards and found the endzone 8 times on the ground, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt.

Etienne is most known for his ability to make people miss and homerun power. The Jennings, Louisiana native held a broken tackle rate of 39.64% in 2023, the third highest hard in the SEC. His 3.84 average yards after contact ranked 4th in the SEC amongst running backs. Etienne also held the third highest explosive run play percentage in the SEC last season.

“I like that he’s a shifty kind of runner. He has great lateral quickness, and he gets off well, and he’s a home run threat,” current Gators’ running back Montrell Johnson said on Etienne’s game.

Etienne graded as Florida’s 2nd best offensive player in 2023 and graded No.5 in 2022 amongst players with 50+ snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Florida returns junior running back Montrell Johnson and freshman running back Treyaun Webb, who will likely lead the Gators’ backfield in 2024. RB Cam Caroll may also return for his 7th year of eligibility after suffering a season ending injury during preseason. Etienne likely only has one more season remaining before he’s NFL bound; he was projected to be a critical piece to the Gators’ puzzle in 2024.
