Quarterback Marcus Stokes flips from Penn State to Florida

The Florida Gators added their quarterback to the Class of 2023 on Thursday when they flipped an in-state prospect.

Quarterback Marcus Stokes (6-2, 185, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Nease) flipped his commitment from Penn State to Florida on Thursday.

“After taking time talking with my family and staying up late nights listening to my heart… I will be flipping my commitment to the University of Florida,” Stokes tweeted.

Stokes first visited Gainesville in March and then returned to Gainesville two weeks ago for the Gators 7-on-7 tournament and the quarterback has talked with the coaching staff a lot about how he fits into the system.

“They were just saying that they think that I would be a good fit for their offense,” Stokes said on the message from the staff. “Stuff like that, I thought the practice was run well. I think I would fit very well in their offense.”

While on campus in March Stokes first met head coach Billy Napier and he walked away from that trip high on the coaching staff.

“I talked to Coach [Ryan] O’Hara a lot, I got to talk to Coach Napier a little bit, pretty much everybody,” he said on the coaches he talked to. “I talked to everybody that works with the quarterbacks, I got to talk to them a lot. They’re all great people.”

As a junior Stokes passed for 2,672 yards and had a completion percentage of 59 percent while throwing for 22 touchdowns and just nine interceptions.

Stokes is also a good running quarterback as he rushed for 496 yards and another six touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards a carry.

The quarterback was a member of the Elite 11 last week and now gives the Gators their leader of the class as Stokes will be able to help the Gators recruit others.
