Preston hoping the Gators offer soon

The past few weekends have been busy on the Florida Gators’ campus but this weekend was a pretty slow one as the Gators start to wind down spring camp.

Defensive end Keldric Preston (6-4, 241, Tampa, FL Robinson) was one of the few prospects to visit Florida and because of that he got extra attention.

“It went great, I loved everything about the school down to football and academics,” Preston said. “They showed me a great time while we watched the scrimmage and then they gave us an in depth tour of the football facilities. After that we got to go around the campus. I loved it.”

One thing that stood out to Preston was how upbeat the Gators scrimmage was and also how much the Gators mixed up defenses.

“The scrimmage was very energetic,” Preston said. “The team was really getting after it and the defense was playing fast. I loved watching them. I really liked the defense and I believe I would be a standup backer or defensive end in the defense. They played a mixture of 3-4 and 4-3.”

Saturday was the first time for Preston to meet defensive line coach Chris Rumph and the defensive end walked away impressed by his energy.

“Coach Rumph is a great guy, he was real energetic out there. I loved him,” Preston said. “He was stressing that everyone was energetic instead of just going through the motions. You can tell he’s a high tempo coach out there. He’s very active.”

Since Saturday was the first time for the two parties to meet each other, Preston says that he’s still in the process of trying to get to know Rumph.

“We’ve been talking on Twitter a lot lately and we’ve just been having small talks,” Preston said. “We haven’t really talked about schemes or me fitting any or anything like that yet. We’ve just been trying to get to know each other right now.”

The Gators have yet to extend an offer to Preston yet but he’s hoping Florida joins Miami — and others — as teams that have offered him.

“Coach Rumph said he would be by my school this spring,” Preston said. “I’m really hoping that an offer comes through from Florida after that.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Preston has picked up some big offers as of late and he’s someone that Florida is going to continue to monitor throughout the spring and summer. Preston will likely camp at Florida this summer.
