Pounds has high interest in the Florida Gators program

Last week the Florida Gators expanded their recruiting board for the offensive line position when they offered a prospect that has picked up several big offers of late.

Offensive lineman Diego Pounds (6-6, 305, Raleigh, NC. Millbrook) picked up the offer after he talked to offensive line coach John Hevesy on the phone.

“Coach Hevesy was the one,” Pounds said on the coach from Florida who offered him. “He said well I’m let you know that you have an offer from the University of Florida.”

Just a few days before picking up an offer from Florida, Pounds picked up an offer from Alabama but the lineman was still shocked to hear from the Gators.

“This kind of came out of nowhere,” he said on if he expected the offer or had been talking to Florida a lot. “They will most definitely be on my top schools list if I ever wanted to make one, I was surprised by this honestly.”

Hevesy didn’t get into specifics about where Pounds would play on the line as this conversation was just about getting to know each other.

“We didn’t talk about that much,” Pounds said on if he talked to Hevesy about where he would play on the line. “We talked about more of what was going on today and we talked some ball too. I can tell that he’s a good coach.”

Pounds does know a few things about the Gators program and he’s familiar with one of the Gators newest assistant coaches.

“They’re a winning program and have a lot of team history,” he said on what he knows about Florida. “I know the history is nice and they have a beautiful campus. I know Coach [Tim] Brewster from when he was at UNC.”

When the dead period is lifted, Pounds would like to visit Gainesville to learn more about Florida’s program.

“My interest is 9 out of 10, I most definitely want to visit,” Pounds said on his interest in Florida. “I want to visit Alabama, Oregon, LSU and maybe a few other schools.”
