Last week, the Florida Gators coaching staff added a few more 2022 prospects to the recruiting board when they offered two new prospects in the class.
Athlete/safety Jake Pope (6-1, 190, Buford, GA. High) picked up his offer after he talked to the head coach himself last week.
“It was Coach [Dan] Mullen who offered,” Pope said on which coach from Florida offered him. “He said that they loved the way I played and that they wanted me to visit this summer.”
Pope hasn’t heard much from the Gators so far in his recruitment so last week’s offer caught him off guard but he was glad to receive the news.
“It was crazy,” he said in his reaction to the offer. “It was a little out of the blue but I’m glad they offered me and they’re a school I look to pursue more.”
Mullen didn’t get into a lot with Pope about where he would play at but the two plan to figure that out as the relationship continues to build.
“He didn’t really specify but most teams are recruiting me as an athlete even though I’m listed as a safety,” Pope said on where Mullen wants him to play. “We plan to talk more about that.”
Despite already having a lot of interest from other top schools already, Pope says the Gators are a team he’s interested in.
“I’m very interested,” he said on his interest in Florida. “They always have a good rep of winning and I love how they swarm the ball on defense and throw all over people on offense.”
The Buford prospect wasted no time after picking up the offer to schedule a visit to Gainesville.
“I plan to in June,” Pope said on his visit plans for Florida. “I have four officials schedule for June to Notre Dame, Alabama, North Carolina, and Ohio State.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Pope says he’s not sure if his visit to Florida will be an official visit or not but he does plan to commit sometime in August.
