Perry pledges to the Florida Gators

Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain should be posting the hashtag “chomp chomp” any moment now as safety Spencer Perry (6-3, 202, Bradenton, FL IMG Academy) has committed to Florida over Auburn and others.

I have verbally committed to THE University of Florida,” Perry said on Twitter. “IM A GATOR.”

Friday was Perry’s third visit to Florida this spring but it was the first time that he had all of his family in tow and that was a big reason as to why Perry decided to make the move on Friday.

Perry has been very vocal on Twitter recently about the defensive backs that Florida has produced plus he has recently become good friends with Gators cornerback commit Chauncey Gardner.

Another big reason that Perry committed to Florida was his relationship with defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan.

“I talked to coach Callahan about everything too, we are building a good relationship with each other,” Perry said. “He said that I would fit in well and that they have a great system in place. I know he has produced some great defensive backs in the past so I could fit in there. I like coach a lot.”

Perry is originally from Auburn, Alabama but made the move to Bradenton, Florida to play for IMG and that should allow Perry to continue to visit the Gators as he will now turn his attention to recruiting other players.

Perry makes commitment number seven in the class and is the second of the day as receiver Isaiah Johnson also committed to Florida.

Perry is also the second defensive back commit in the class joining his good friend cornerback Chauncey Gardner of Cocoa who committed to Florida last weekend during his junior day visit.

GatorCountry will have much more on Perry’s commitment to Florida plus much more from Friday’s visitors.
