Perkins likes Torrian Gray’s history with defensive backs

Last week, the Florida Gators handed out a few new 2021 offers including one to a JUCO prospect that’s committed elsewhere.

Oregon JUCO defensive back commit Jadarrius Perkins (6-2,185, Hattiesburg, MS. Mississippi Gulf Coast JUCO) picked up an offer from the Gators after talking to two Gators coaches.

“Coach [Tim] Brewster offered me and I talked with Coach [Torrian] Gray,” Perkins said of which coach offered him last week. “They just said they love my ability to play press man and they really love me. They feel I’m a great player and he said he wanted to offer me even though I’m committed to Oregon.”

Despite being committed to Oregon, Perkins was excited to pick up an offer from the Gators last week.

“It was a blessing to get the offer,” he said on his reaction. “Florida has a really rich cornerback tradition.”

Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray explained to Perkins where the Gators see him fitting into the defense at if he chooses Florida.

“He sees me playing both corner and nickel,” Perkins said on where Gray sees him playing. “He likes that I’m long, physical and I can really run and that I can play press man for them.”

Gray also explained to Perkins that the Gators need some experience at his position and early playing time is available.

“Oh yeah,” he said on if Gray expressed a big need for him. “He said he would really love for me to play for him and he feels that I can come in and compete right away for their defense.”

Perkins has done his research on Gray and likes what the veteran defensive backs coach has done in his career.

“Coach Gray is a cool guy I would say,” Perkins said on his thoughts on Gray. “He has a really rich history of coaching some really good players in the backend.”

Next up for the Oregon commit will be a visit to Gainesville so Perkins can see the coaches in person.

“I will visit but I’m a Duck,” he said.
