Perkins impressed by the new Florida Gators’ coaching staff

The Florida Gators hosted 8 official visitors this weekend including one prospect committed to another SEC school.

Texas A&M linebacker commit Harold Perkins (6-2, 210, Cypress, TX. Cy Park) is one of if not the Gators top remaining targets on the board and he enjoyed his time in Gainesville.

“It was fun, it was exciting,” Perkins said on his official visit to Florida. “I felt like the new staff was bringing new things in and I’m liking it. I liked how they’re spending more money on the players and investing in the players. It was fun and exciting. I didn’t expect to see all of the stuff that I seen.”

Perkins said the highlight of the trip was being around the players and several players were with him including former Gators defensive back Chauncey Gardner.

“The highlight of my visit this weekend was hanging out with the guys,” he said. “I was with [Trey] Dean, Kamari [Wilson] and some of the other guys. Just enjoying ourselves.”

Safety Trey Dean was the main host for Perkins this weekend and he explained to the linebacker how things are changing in Gainesville.

“Dean was,” Perkins said on who his player host was. “He told me the good’s and the bad and the difference between the old staff and this staff. He told me how I could better myself.”

This weekend was the first time for Perkins to meet the new coaching staff and he came away impressed by Napier’s staff.

“It was good, Coach Napier is a very down to earth person,” Perkins said on hanging out with the new staff. “I liked the coaching staff, even though they just got together they act like they’ve been together for a while. The coaching staff was like family.”

Three coaches in particular spent time with Perkins including defensive coordinator Patrick Toney who broke down how Perkins would fit Florida’s defense.

“Napier, [Patrick] Toney and [Jamar] Chaney,” Perkins said on the coaches he spent the most time with. “They see me playing all over. I don’t like to put one position on me. I don’t want to be put in a box. I want to be able to expand my ways.”

Off the field coach Jamar Chaney is someone that Perkins has been to close to awhile and they were able to reconnect this weekend.

“Chaney, that’s my dawg,” he said on what he likes about Jamar Chaney. “I was locked in with Chaney when they first offered me with the old staff. We were locked in even when he went to Mississippi State, we still talked and stuff.”

Freshman safety Kamari Wilson has been in Gainesville for less than two weeks and he’s good friends with Perkins and helped recruit the linebacker this weekend.

“It’s good, that’s my dawg, that’s my brother,” he said on his relationship with Kamari Wilson. “We’re going to be locked in whether I come here or not.”

Next up for Perkins will likely be two more visits but those visits are not set up at this time.

“I should be taking some more visits,” Perkins said on what’s next for him. “I don’t have them set up yet, I don’t know. I want to go to Miami, also I’m going to see LSU too. I have two more visits.”

Perkins didn’t want to put a label on his commitment to Texas A&M but instead said that he liked what he was able to see in Gainesville during his visit.

“We will see what’s going to happen on February 2nd,” he said on where his commitment is at. “Florida is very down to earth, I love the people here, they’re amazing, show you a lot of love and not to mention I want to be a X factor and that’s what Coach Napier sees me as.”
