Peoples-Jones compared to NFL greats: Florida Gators recruiting

Florida Gators recruiting target Donovan Peoples-Jones (6-1, 188, Detroit, MI Cass Tech) is one of the top receivers in the country and the Gators had him on campus this past Sunday.

This wasn’t the first visit to Gainesville for Peoples-Jones, as the talented receiver was on campus for Friday Night Lights last July. This time, however, he got to see the new facilities at Florida.

“I enjoyed my visit, I visited once last summer and I was eager to get back on campus,” Peoples-Jones said. “We toured the campus, met with the coaches and I had a good time. The new indoor practice facility was one of the best I’ve been seen.”

Peoples-Jones is very familiar with Florida head coach Jim McElwain and the coaching staff and it’s a staff he feels comfortable with.

“I like the coaching staff, they treat me like family every time,” he said. “Coach McElwain tells me whenever I wanted to come back I could and that he couldn’t wait to see me on campus again.”

McElwain spent a good amount of time with the talented Michigan receiver on Sunday and explained the Gators offense to him.

“He was talking to me about the school and the offense,” Peoples-Jones said of McElwain’s message. “He was just telling me how he needed me and how I could fit into his scheme at Florida well. They need receivers.”

Receivers coach Kerry Dixon had a prior commitment on Sunday, but offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier picked up the slack and spoke at length with Peoples-Jones. Nussmeier is the coach that Peoples-Jones has the longest relationship with anyway.

“Coach Dixon wasn’t there so I wasn’t able to see him, but I talked to Coach Nussmeier,” he said. “He was just comparing me to players he’s coached in his system before at other schools. He was comparing me to Amari Cooper and Julio Jones. He showed me how they were being used in the offense and compared their style of game to mine.”

Just recently Peoples-Jones released a top-ten that included Florida, and this visit helped the Gators out, while also securing another visit from the Michigan prospect.

“Florida is a great school and are in my top-10,” Peoples-Jones said. “I enjoy my time every time I visit and I plan to return for another visit to Florida. I’m not sure when and I’m not sure when I’m making a decision right now.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Peoples-Jones is one of the top receivers on the Florida Gators recruiting board and is someone the Gators are working hard on. Florida is one of the schools that have a legit chance at landing the big play receiver.
