Olubobola says his relationship with Phil Trautwein is a “different one”

On Saturday, the Florida Gators had several top targets on the recruiting board on campus to watch the first scrimmage.

Offensive lineman Oluwasemilore Olubobola (6-6, 283, Jersey City, NJ. St. Peter’s Prep) was one of those guys on campus and seeing offensive line coach Phil Trautwein in action stood out to him.

“The conversation about the spring practice,” Olubobola said on what stood out to him. “Just seeing them move around, seeing the offensive line work, seeing Coach Traut coach that was pretty good.”

Trautwein explained to Olubobola that he’s wanted in Gainesville because of his work ethic on the field.

“He’s going to develop me,” he said on the message from Trautwein. “That he wants players like me, players that work hard and are willing to put in the work.”

Olubobola was in Gainesville in January, so he has been around the coaching staff, but this time was different as he was able to see a practice.

“It was kind of different because this time I actually got to see him coach,” Olubobola said on what was different this time with Trautwein. “First time, it was just a conversation, show me around but I mean when I first came here, I kind of knew I liked Florida already. Coming back here, I still like Florida.”

Head coach Jon Sumrall also spoke with Olubobola during the trip and his leadership is what stands out to him.

“My relationship is good with Coach Sumrall,” he said. “I talked to him often, what stands about him is his leadership. He wants to set an example; he says he will focus more on the team than talking to recruits during practice. He says he really wants me, but I respect him being a leader for the team.”

Olubobola isn’t ready to name leaders but he says his relationship with Trautwein is the longest of any coach.

“I have a very strong relationship with Coach Traut,” Olubobola said on how strong his relationship is. “I feel like it’s a little bit different because he’s recruited me for the longest, I’ve known him for a while since I was a freshman.”
