After his hiring as head coach at Florida, one of the first things Jon Sumrall made clear was his intention to hire an offensive coordinator capable of bringing an explosive offense to Gainesville.
“One of my first priorities will be to assemble an incredible staff, including an offensive coordinator who understands that, at Florida, having an explosive offense isn’t optional – it’s mandatory,” Sumrall said in a statement given to Florida’s administration.

Kade Bell – Pitt’s OC
Kade Bell, son of former Florida Gators quarterback Kerwin Bell, has been Pitt’s offensive quarterback the last two seasons and has sparked major improvement. After taking over an offense that ranked 116th nationally, Pitt added over 90 yards per game on average in their first year under Bell, ranking 44th in 2024 at 408.7 yards per game. While their total offense has dipped to 391.5 yards per game in 2025, Pitt scores 35.1 points per game and ranks 18th in scoring offense.
Bell has mentored freshman standout quarterback Mason Heintschel, who has thrown for 2,098 yards and 15 touchdowns in eight games.
Joey Halzle – Tennessee’s OC / Quarterbacks coach
Joey Halzle has spent the last three seasons as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Halzle has worked closely with head coach Josh Heupel for 17 years, joining him at UCF, Missouri, Utah State, and Oklahoma. Halzle understands Heupel’s up-tempo and explosive offense better than anyone. The 39-year old has been part of some of the best offenses in college football throughout his young career. Tennessee’s offense ranks 6th nationally in 2025.
Buster Faulkner – Georgia Tech’s OC
Buster Faulkner has served as Georgia Tech’s offensive coordinator the past three seasons. Faulkner also worked at Georgia as a quality control – quarterbacks from 2020-22, claiming two national championships with the Bulldogs. Leaning on senior quarterbacks Haynes King, the Blue Jackets rank 12th in total offense and 28th in scoring offense this season.
Brian Daboll
Recently fired New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll could be looking for a job, and he’s connected with newly hired general manager David Caldwell as the two played high school football together in Buffalo, New York.
Daboll had success with the Buffalo Bills from 2018-21 and at Alabama under Nick Saban in 2017. This feels like a long shot but one that could make sense for both parties.
