The Florida Gators had one of their biggest junior days on Saturday and they received a commitment from an instate prospect during the visit.
Tight end Nick Elksnis (6-6, 220, Jacksonville, FL. Episcopal) committed to the Florida Gators just a week after decommitting from Penn State.
“After much thoughts and prayer, I am overjoyed to announce my commitment to the University of Florida. I was raised a Gator by my grandmother and now it’s time to play as one,” Elksnis said.
Elksnis visited the Gators for the first junior day and it was during that time that the Gators sold the tight end how he would be used in Gainesville.
“They were telling me how they would use me similar to how they use Kyle Pitts,” Elksnis said on the message from Florida. “They were saying they need someone to come in and take over that role once Kyle Pitts leaves and how I could be similar to him.”
After signing tight end Jonathan Odom last year the Gators now have commits from both Elksnis and tight end Gage Wilcox who committed to the Gators just a week ago.
Elksnis is the 14th commit in the Gators class of 2021 and is the 8th commitment from the state of Florida including Kamar Wilcoxson who currently attends IMG but is originally from Georgia.
The Jacksonville native joins quarterback Carlos Del Rio, receivers, Brashard Smith Trevonte Rucker and Daejon Reynolds and tight end Gage Wilcox is skill position commits in the class.
