Mullen updates injuries ahead of opener

The Gators will be about as healthy as can be expected for this weekend’s game against Florida Atlantic.

Redshirt freshman defensive back Kamar Wilcoxson has “a slight knee issue” and will be doubtful to play, according to coach Dan Mullen. However, Wilcoxson sent out a tweet that suggests this could be a longer term injury.

In his place, Missouri transfer Jadarrius Perkins will backup Tre’Vez Johnson at the STAR position.

There are also a couple of injuries worth monitoring at defensive tackle. Sophomore Jalen Lee is “questionable” to play this week with an undisclosed injury, while Daquan Newkirk is “good to go” for practice on Monday after missing time last week with a minor injury, Mullen said.

Additionally, freshman offensive lineman Yousef Mugharbil was involved in a scooter accident on Monday morning. Mullen stated that he was OK but refused to divulge further details.

Cornerback Jaydon Hill was previously confirmed to have suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

Still, to only have five guys mentioned on the injury report after a physical training camp is a huge success for the Gators.
