Morris sad to see Johnson leave but listening to Dan Mullen and co.

The Florida Gators are looking for their quarterback in the Class of 2022 and now they will do so with a new quarterback coach.

2022 quarterback MJ Morris (6-1, 175, Atlanta, GA. Pace Academy) is one of the top guys in the class and while he hated to see former quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson leave the Gators, he’s happy for the chance Johnson got in the NFL.

“Of course I hate to see him go because of the relationship we had and it was becoming very strong,” Morris said of Brian Johnson leaving Florida. “I’m extremely happy for him to get an opportunity in the NFL so I wish him the best of luck.”

New quarterbacks coach Garrett McGee hasn’t reached out to Morris yet but he plans to speak with him soon.

“I haven’t talked to him yet but I’m looking forward to talking to him soon,” he said of McGee. “I’ve been texting back and forth with Coach Mullen, we will talk again pretty soon.”

Head coach Dan Mullen has a solid relationship with Morris and that’s keeping the Gators in the mix for the 2022 quarterback.

“My relationship with Coach Mullen is strong and my eyes are still wide open to Florida,” Morris said on his interest in Florida now. “I’m interested because Coach Mullen develops his quarterbacks and how he produces them to the NFL and his experience with quarterbacks himself.”

Mullen has explained to Morris in the past that the Gators offense is built around the quarterback and Florida wants to build around Morris.

“He really wants me to be the future quarterback of the team,” he said on Mullen’s message to him. “He thinks that I will do well in that offense and he says the offense is based on the quarterback’s strengths.

Morris didn’t get to attend a game in Gainesville last year but he did watch the Gators’ offense closely.

“I loved watching the offense,” Morris said on last year’s offense. “Every time they came on TV, I made sure to watch the game and I would sit there and envision myself playing in that offense. I love what Coach Mullen does what quarterbacks.”

Next up for Morris will be visits but the question of whether he will be able to meet with the coaching staff is still up in the air as the quarterback is waiting to see if the dead period is lifted soon.

“Me and my family have been talking about things and if the dead period doesn’t go away soon then we’re going to have to visit some places on our own,” he said of visits. “Florida will definitely be a school that I want to take a visit to, I want to see the whole school part.”

Heading into visits, Morris says a few schools are standing out to him and recruiting him hard.

“I would say the schools standing out the most are Stanford, Arkansas, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, and Miami,” Morris said. “It was Alabama and Auburn but their coaches left.”
