Montgomery has high interest in the Florida Gators following junior day

Several top instate targets for the 2021 class visited the Florida Gators on Saturday for junior day as the Gators hosted dozens of prospects on campus.

2021 athlete Charles Montgomery (5-10, 185, Seffner, Fl. Armwood) visited Florida for the first time on Saturday and met with the coaching staff.

“It was great, we got to tour the campus,” Montgomery said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “We talked to the coaches as well as Coach [Dan] Mullen and we took some photos.”

Montgomery talked with most of the staff on Saturday and learned where the Gators would like him to play at if he chooses Florida.

“I talked to Coach [Billy] Gonzales, Coach [Larry] Scott, Coach [Keiwan] Ratliff and Coach Mullen, plus a few others,” he said on the coaches he talked on Saturday. “They want me to play receiver/running back.”

Receivers coach Billy Gonzales and Montgomery spent much of Saturday building a relationship and getting to know each other more.

“i mean he didn’t get into all of that he was just breaking down what he does for and with his receivers,” Montgomery said of what Gonzales told him about the receiver position. “We really didn’t talk about football, we talked more about life and just got to get a connection with each other.”

This was the first time for Montgomery to meet the staff and he says the relationship is building quickly.

“I loved them all,” he said on his relationship with the coaches. “Coach Mullen, words can’t even explain how great he is. Hopefully we have a tight connection but I’m pretty certain we’ll be close at the end of the day.”

In January, Montgomery picked up an offer from the Gators and it was one that caught his attention.

“It was honestly crazy but I was beyond excited to receive it,” Montgomery said of his reaction to the Florida offer earlier this month. “Actually I grew up a Florida State fan but tables have turned since this recruiting process has been going on.”

Now that Montgomery has the offer and visited the Gators, the athlete says his interest in Florida is high.

“I like the business facility over there,” he said on what he likes about Florida. “The love they were showing, everything they were talking about and my interest level is now high with Florida.”

Next up for Montgomery will be more trips and he already has three official visits planned for the coming months.

“I don’t have any planned at the moment,” Montgomery said of upcoming trips. “I do have an official visit for Florida, Maryland and Penn State for the spring.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Montgomery says he will make his decision on May 24th after taking those three official visits.
